A LCD tv utilizes a flat panel TV and liquid crystals to create the picture that a viewer sees. This technology is the same type as used for cell telephones or monitors. The LCD television stands for Liquid Crystal Display. This is essentially is a flat panel television that is constructed of two layers of a glass type material. Others say despite the great picture, the lamp in the rear projection model starts flickering about thirty percent of into its life span. There have been complaints about the lamp burning out completely. A consumer needs to do complete research into purchasing a unit.
